Reitz Memorial Girls’ Track team finished 2nd to New Albany in the 2019 Regional Meet on Tuesday, May 21 at Central Stadium. Of the 44 teams, 34 at least scored a point, but it was clear as the meet progressed that only 3 teams were in a position to take come the Regional Championship title.
Memorial beat the 2018 Regional Champion Floyd Central team by 7 points, but ended the night 5.5 points away from first place falling to another talented New Albany team. The Tigers had student-athletes advance to the Regional meet in 14 of 16 events, and scored in a dozen different Regional events, but couldn’t keep pace with a deep New Albany team that only won one event (An 18′ long jump by Senior Mariah Grant).
The Tiger’s, on the other hand, were Regional Champions in 3 events: Both the 4x800m and 4x400m Relays, and first AND second place finishes in the 800m! Freshman Jacqueline Brasseale also finished 3rd in the mile. With the top 3 places going to State, Memorial will be represented well.
Below are the list of Memorial Tigers who qualified for State competition and their times:
4x800m – 9:34.76 – First Place
Allison Morphew – 2:17.61 – First Place
Claire Sievern – 2:18.50 – 2nd Place
Jacqueline Brasseale – 5:18.64 – 3rd Place
4x400m Relay – 4:04.08 – First Place
Memorial’s final competition is the State Meet at Indiana University on June 1 beginning at 3:00 EST. A final run for the talented Tiger Seniors Seve Felker, Ellen Hayhurst and Claire Sievern.
