  • Why did you (or your parents) choose Memorial High School: Both parents went to Memorial.

 

  • Who influenced you the most during your time at Memorial and why? Had really great coaches in basketball and baseball.  Coach Wannemueller, Coach Ralph Weinzafpel, Coach Quinten Merkel all taught me that hard work, fundamentals would pay off.  We won Sectional, Regional in basketball (1970), won sectional all 4 years in baseball and advanced to state final game in 1970 in baseball.

 

  • Share your favorite Memorial Memory: Several.

 

  • Winning all four sectionals in baseball, advancing to state final game in 1970 in baseball, advancing to semi-state final game in baseball in 1968 as a sophomore. In 1968 won a triple header the last day of season to win City championship.  Twice named Courier & Press Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior in baseball.  Named to City Courier & Press all-star team as a sophomore.  Total final record as a pitcher 41-4.

 

  • Winning the second sectional championship in Memorial basketball history, and regional championship in 1970. Highest point total in a game was in 1970 sectional final beating North, 26 points. Named captain of All-City basketball team.

 

  • What was the most important thing you learned while at Memorial?
    • How important a good education is and how in later life you can fall back on your education for career advancements.

 

  • What advice do you have for current student-athlete to make the most of their experience at Memorial?
    • Take advantage of your opportunities in the classroom foremost.

 

  • Describe Memorial in three words?
    • Catholic Education, Discipline and Hard Work

 

  • Describe your college and career path?
    • The Catholic Education I got at St. John’s Newburgh and Memorial allowed me to work at several large technology companies like – Texas Instruments, Chevron, Hitachi, and 3 or 4 Software companies (Wall Data, AT&T, Micro Focus, Rocket Software). I am also on 5 university faculties teaching Computer Science, and Mathematics

 

  • What is greatest professional accomplishment?
    • Won several awards as outstanding Systems Engineer of the quarter
    • Got my Master’s Degree in Management, Computing and Systems from Houston Baptist University in 1987.

 

  • How did your education at Memorial prepare you for what you did in college and are doing today?
    • Memorial prepared me very well in Mathematics. My first degree from Indiana University was in Mathematics.  That degree opened many doors for me in scientific and technologies companies.

 

  • What activities or sports were you involved in at Memorial?
    • Basketball and Baseball all 4 years
    • Cross Country Junior and Senior year
    • Football freshman year.

 

  • What is something people may not know about you?
    • I have 6 sisters.
    • I have won the senior nationals in shooting free throws and around the world in 2017.
    • I have won the senior Texas games in shooting free throws and around the world in 2015, and 2017.
    • Once won a 10K although I may have been the only one in my age group.

 

  • Are you married? Have children? Anything else you would like to share!
    • Married, with 4 boys, and currently 3 grandchildren, and hoping for more.
