Below, read a simple note from a Greensburg High School alumnus……..
“I wish to convey to the girl’s varsity basketball team and student body that they have much for which to take pride.
This weekend, I went to Charlestown to cheer for my alma mater and witnessed what is valued, but that can never be affixed a price.
I am native to Greensburg, having left in 1982. In that Greensburg is ranked highly in Indiana girls basketball, I expected the least by performance from Evansville Memorial. After all, Memorial had the lowest ranking among competitors.
I quickly realized the Memorial girls have strength of character and a strong will to succeed. Those are the very traits that have sustained America. In that basketball is athletic competition and not warfare, I’d have been as happy to call Saturday evening’s game a tie. But that isn’t the nature of tournament play.
I tip my hat to the girls basketball team for their fine display of talent and sportsmanship. In that I am retired from military service, it is those days like Saturday when I am delivered my peace dividend. In spite of what bad news may be gleaned from media sources, I saw that the best of what America offers has survived to a next generation.
