This week we pray in gratitude for the gift of competition
Lord, we thank You for the gift of this new year. A new year that will be bring many joys, challenges, blessings and sufferings.
One of the graces we are blessed with is competition. Our society “teaches” us to hate our competition, to degrade them, think poorly of them … this is not Your Way, this is not Christianity.
The word Competition comes directly from the Latin competere “strive in common”. So our competition is not our enemy but someone who is striving together with us. We each seek to bring out the best in one another.
And when this happens, when we improve, rise to our best and conquer our weaknesses … that is a great grace, a gift.
In the heat of battle, the joy of victory and the disappointment of loss, may we remember that You, Lord, are making us stronger through our competition.
May You be praised in all we say, think and do, Lord.
May God bless you.
